Marvel Actors React to Stan Lee’s Death

Iconic comic creator Stan Lee passed away on Monday at the age of 95. Although the cause of death wasn’t immediately known, we now know that he was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center yesterday morning because of pneumonia.

His health had been steadily declining since the death of Joan Lee, his wife of 69 years, in 2017.

If you’ve seen a superhero movie or read a comic book at some point in your life, chances are you’re already familiar with Stan Lee’s incredible body of work.

He created Spider-Man, the X-Men, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, and the frickin’ Avengers. Basically, he’s the reason the Marvel Universe exists. The people who helped bring his characters to life expressed their heartbreak and shock on Twitter throughout the day.

Ryan Reynolds

Vincent D’Onofrio

He might play the villainous Kingpin on Daredevil, but Vincent D’Onofrio is a class act in real life: “Can you imagine being one of the guys that made comic books&comic book characters what they are today. I often wonder what it was like in those offices with those first artists&writers. I never met @TheRealStanLee . Only heard great things about him. He’ll be missed.”

Josh Brolin

The Infinity War villain had this to say about Stan Lee: “To those of us who have been so deeply affected by the humanity of his imagination, the understand of reaching beyond our potential and the necessity of tapping into our immeasurable imaginations, we thank you…”

Hugh Jackman

Wolverine had something to say about the creator of the X-Men: “We’ve lost a creative genius. Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe. I’m proud to have been a small part of his legacy and to have helped bring one of his characters to life.”

Robert Downey, Jr.

Iron Man himself had this touchingly simple statement of gratitude to share: “I owe it all to you. Rest in Peace, Stan.”

Winston Duke

Winston Duke played the scene-stealing M’Baku in Black Panther. Here’s what he had to say in honor of Stan Lee: “THANK YOU, @TheRealStanLee. You gave us characters that continue to stand the test of time and evolve with our consciousness. You thought us that there are no limits to our future as long as we have access to our imagination. Rest in power!”

Chris Evans

Captain America himself Tweeted this eloquent statement: “There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!

I’m not crying—you’re crying!
